Who, me?

This necessary part of the website has always been the most difficult. I am friendly but just have never been comfortably waving my own banner around. I like to work in the background and have never needed a lot of attention. My reward is in seeing something done well and serving its purpose.

I have always been involved in anything art related for as far back as I remember. The psychology behind art, design and marketing has always fascinated me and am constantly reading and studying trends and techniques. To do something well and correctly it should not always mean that you need to spend a lot of money, just because a lot of money is spent on something will not guarantee its effectiveness. I am interested in what works and why - almost like a puzzle that needs to be solved.

A large part of my concentration is spent on design within the Christian community. It has been very refreshing to see over the years the respect of good design increase. For years it was all so cheesy, outdated and treated as an afterthought. Back in the days of Michaleangelo artistic talent was rewarded and appreciated and a large part of serving God, but somewhere along the way someone decided that only music was important. Its been a long time coming, but the tide is changing and although I don't think we'll ever see a Sistine Chapel again I do think there is now beginning to be value placed on design that is aesthetically pleasing.

For a short while I left advertising and design and worked as a custom framer while also continuing to paint. The most gratifying part of custom framing was taking something that was special to someone, and through the process of choosing matting and the correct frame it could then be elevated to a really beautiful keepsake. I also discovered that the only paintings I truly enjoyed working on were the ones I was doing for someone else. These discoveries have helped me realize that although my talents are in visual art they are only truly realized when used in serving someone else and assisting them in making their vision a reality. Equal to my artistic ability is my ability to hear what someone wants and translate that into something tangible.

This is more than I ever thought I could write about myself! I hope that is has helped you get to know me a little better!
